Meat-Free Week: 2nd Report from the Front Lines

Posted by on Feb 8, 2012 in DC Vegan Drinks, Events, Food, Meat-Free Week, Restaurants | 0 comments

This morning, we’re humming “Oh What A Night” and trying to change the lyrics to fit H Street.  (It’s harder than it sounds.)  But, really, what a night!  We’re so excited to hear how many of you hit up multiple H Street spots to indulge in as much veggie goodness as possible.  We indulged in the spicy, doughy Fat Tire Beer Brat Pie at Dangerously Delicious.  And this tweet from @djbays made our day: “Tasty vegan sausage & pepper sandwich at @GranvilleMoores last night. Pls keep it on the menu past meat-free week!”

Thank you, Meat-Free Week-ers; thank you, H Street; and thank you, Margaret Holwill, without whom we couldn’t have pulled it off!

Yesterday you went to H Street, but today the food comes to you.  It’s Food Truck Day!  Check out the full list of participating food trucks here.   Find the location of your fav on twitter, or use the Washingtonian’s handy dandy guide.  We’re excited to share that the Foljol Bros. new vegan item will be mushroom drunken noodles.  You can get it on their Volathai truck, which will be at 12th & G for lunch, 11:48-1:52 (their hours, not ours).

Eat up, DC!  And we’ll see you tomorrow at Vegan Drinks with The Tipsy Vegan!

P.S.  Soyummi is celebrating Meat-Free Week with deals on its pudding 4-packs at DC area Harris Teeter and Giant locations.  Get all the details on their website.

DC Meat-Free Week Preview: DC Brau and Boundary Stone

Posted by on Feb 7, 2012 in Events, Food, Meat-Free Week, Restaurants | 0 comments

The Meat-Free Week fun will continue all through the weekend.  Sunday from 2pm – 5pm we’re taking over Boundary Stone.

What’s more, the awesome folks at DC Brau are bringing a keg of their Corruption Ale!  DC Brau is a great way to wash down Boundary Stone’s legendary seitan wings.

In addition to those vegan wings, Boundary Stone’s Chef Vince is also whipping up a selection of seasonal salads, a hummus appetizer, butternut squash bisque, Vietnamese-style fresh summer rolls, and an entree of  slow roasted portobella mushroom served over chimichurri quinoa with a winter root vegetable ragout and red wine-blood orange gastrique.

Update: With every vegan option purchased, you’ll receive a mug of DC Brau Corruption Ale — compliments of  DC Brau and Boundary Stone.  (Limit of one per person.)  Any sales of Corruption Ale will  be donated to charity!

R.S.V.P. here.

Meat-Free Week: Report from the Front Lines

Huge thanks to Chef Michael Giacomello, and Kimberly Bryden of Whole Foods, for rocking last night’s vegan cooking class.  Chef Mike showed a very full room how to prepare seitan piccata al minute.  Enormous thanks also go to Doron Petersan and the staff of Sticky Fingers for whipping up more than 40 delicious BBQ dinners at our kick-off party!

Tonight, the fun heads east as H Street Goes Veg!  Check out offerings like Granville Moore’s vegan sausage, pepper and onion subs, or Smith Commons’ chickpea ravioli with curry coconut sauce.  Save room for pie at Dangerously Delicious, where you’ll save 10% off your slice — and another 10% of your check will benefit Compassion Over Killing!

And don’t forget to take lots of pics for our photo contest!  You can submit as many entries as you like to win our prize pack, which includes 2 quarts of soup from Souper Girl and $25 to try the vegan menu at Founding Farmers.  Our only rule: be creative!
