Vegan MoFo: BBQ Chick’n and Slaw Sandwich

Posted by on Oct 11, 2011 in Cooking, Food, News, Restaurants, VeganMOFO | 6 comments

This weekend I ate at DC’s Founding Farmers for brunch and ate the best BBQ “chicken” sandwich of. my. life. See photo to the left - humina, humina!

In partnership with VegDC.com and Compassion Over Killing, Founding Farmers created a full vegan menu with classic dishes served completely vegan. This heavenly meal consisted of a Griddled Gardein chick’n breast with  Founding Farmers’ homemade vegan BBQ sauce and crunchy slaw served on a homemade, toasted English muffin. Um, does it get any better than this?!

  1. Agreed! That sandwich is delightful! My husband had the chocolate waffles and was similarly wowed. We will definitely be heading back for more of Founding Farmers’ food and drinks.

  2. Oh man — this looks tasty. I always try to replicate restaurant meals and fail miserably (especially when I’m just going on a picture), but this sandwich sounds too delicious not to attempt! Thanks for sharing!

    • I do too! I like to snag takeout menus so I can attempt to recreate vegan dishes out on the town as well. I think you could make something similar and look up a homemade slaw recipe (and BBQ recipe if you’re really crafty)… but if you live near or are traveling through DC, I recommend “taste testing” the real deal ; )

  3. One of the best, if not the best, vegan sandwiches I’ve ever had. So good!

    • OMG. I am obsessed and plan to take all my vegan visitors there FOR SURE! I took my parents there (who aren’t vegan and ordered from the omnivore menu) and the next day we decided that it would become our new breakfast spot when they come to visit, hands down.
